Hi-top, no fade

This is Allie-Ryan, who's sporting this high top, post faux hawk thingy. He calls it "rough nonchalance." That's those damned hipsters for you -- always coming up with a creative way of justifying their messy appearance. Anyway, it's hot - somewhere between a faux hawk and an Afro. Ryan washes his locks with Halo , dressed with Paul Mitchell Foaming Pomade for curl and texture and Aveda's Brilliant for shine. That's a lot of pricey product for nonchalance.

The V-hawk

I got this cut about two months ago. It's shaved on the sides and forms a V in the back. I sat down to my barber, Sean at Sean Paul, and kind of worked with him on it. Knew I wanted the sides shaved, but definitely not a mohawk. (Of course, a lot of peopIe are like, "Your mohawk is cool!") I think I was inspired by this fighter on "Ultimate Fighter." Anyway, it's growing out more on the top and looking kinda funky. I hear some guy has the same hair in that Chris Brown movies "This Christmas," which is scary because my trend is "shifting" already!" I've actually heard some other kids are adopting it here in Norfolk. I'm keeping it for now anyway; it's kinda retro but quirky too. I use Paul Mitchell Foaming Pomade for some curl and Kemi Oyl on it for conditioning. I always love going to get hair oil from the ghetto ass hair supply shop. There's always free, impromptu theater inside and occasionally some crackhead performance art in front.

This was my hair circa 1999. The rave Rasta phase. Actually went to Jamaica with it like that; the old yardies was feeling it. I felt like Supercat strolling through. I think I was using a lot of Nature's Blessings at the time, which is this pomade you buy from vendors at little Afro fairs or tables on 125th, made from veggies and stuff. Good stuff. Strenghtens the hair, and smells really good too.
